Congrats to the Duke University team for winning the bonus prize in the #EnergyTechUP competition!

Congratulations to the Duke University students Brian WongMarla Harvey, Ross Fly, and Sumit Dalsania for winning an Office of Electricity bonus prize in the #EnergyTechUP competition for developing a business plan based on technology from Duke University – The Fuqua School of Business Professor David Brown’s research on improving the operational efficiency of electric utilities.

Their team was among the Top 28 student finalists at the EnergyTech University Prize (EnergyTech UP), sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Technology Transitions (OTT). The finalists—made up of multidisciplinary teams of post-secondary students —were chosen from among the 225 competing teams representing 117 schools and invited to compete in regional Explore Events in late February.

This prestigious contest recognizes innovation in the energy sector, and their win is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and bright minds. Professor Brown and coauthor Professor Jim Smith (Dartmouth, Tuck School of Business) invented the technology behind the students’ business plan and served as faculty advisors for the team. Brown and Smith’s research emerged out of their work on the ARPA-E-funded project A Grid that’s Risk-Aware for Clean Electricity (GRACE), led by Nicholas School of the Environment Professor Dalia Patiño-Echeverri.
