PreMiEr Hosts Inaugural Industry Summit, Showcases Power of Strategic Partnerships
Durham, NC – PreMiEr: NSF Engineering Research Center for Precision Microbiome Engineering recently hosted its first Industry Summit focused on the Microbiome of Built Environment (MoBE). The event brought together industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers to discuss the latest advancements in MoBE research and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The summit featured a series of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and poster sessions, highlighting the importance of building strategic partnerships between academia, industry, and government. By fostering collaboration, PreMiEr aims to accelerate the translation of groundbreaking research into real-world applications.
“OEP and PreMiEr closely collaborate on expanding the PreMiEr industry consortium. The summit was actively attended by OEP. Additionally, Sharlini Sankaran, Ph.D. helped facilitate one of the tables at the workshop event.”, said Anurodh Tripathi, Ph.D., Associate Director of Business Development & Corporate Relations, Duke Pratt School of Engineering.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our industry partners: Novonesis, Neogen Corporation, Illumina, PS&S, PacBio, Locus Biosciences, Inc., Westat, Nexilico, Inc., and BIOME Consortia for participating and providing meaningful feedback.
A special thanks to the North Carolina Biotechnology Center (NCBiotech) for hosting the summit at their beautiful campus.
The Role of OEP
The Office of External Partnerships (OEP) is a vital resource for Duke University. It connects researchers with industry partners to advance innovation and address critical societal challenges. OEP’s mission is to facilitate strategic partnerships that align with Duke’s research priorities and contribute to economic development.
By leveraging its extensive network of industry contacts and deep understanding of the innovation ecosystem, OEP helps researchers:
- Identify potential industry partners: OEP can connect researchers with companies interested in collaborating on research projects.
- Secure funding: OEP can assist researchers in securing funding from government agencies, foundations, and non-profit organizations.
- Build strong relationships: OEP fosters long-lasting relationships between Duke researchers and industry partners, leading to mutually beneficial collaborations.
A Focus on Research Translation
A significant portion of the summit was dedicated to a workshop focused on research translation and commercialization. Participants discussed strategies for identifying market opportunities, protecting intellectual property, and securing funding for technology development.
By promoting collaboration between researchers and industry partners, PreMiEr and OEP are driving innovation and creating a positive impact on society. The inaugural Industry Summit was a resounding success, and the organizers are already looking forward to the next event.
