
Partnerships@Duke: Connecting the Community of Practice
Durham, NC – Duke University’s Office for External Partnerships (OEP) recently hosted the “Partnerships at Duke” event at the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, bringing together faculty and staff to explore collaboration strategies and discuss new opportunities for innovation and impact. The high-energy event provided a platform for participants to engage in meaningful discussions, share best practices to address barriers and identify ways to strengthen partnerships across academic disciplines and among Duke’s Schools, Centers, and Institutes.

Dr. Jenny Lodge delivered an impactful welcome speech.
The event began with a welcome from Dr. Jenny Lodge, VP, the Office of Research and Innovation, who emphasized the importance of research and innovation through external partnerships in advancing Duke’s mission.

Dr. Ed Pagani spoke about the importance of developing regional partnerships.
Dr. Ed Pagani, Executive Director, Office for External Partnerships, delivered opening remarks, focusing on the value of collaboration within the Duke community and the region, and discussed key aspects of partnership development. He explored strategies for identifying potential partners, building strong relationships, and creating agreements that benefit all parties involved. He also addressed common challenges in partnership development, such as navigating differing organizational cultures, resource constraints, and regulatory issues. His presentation provided practical advice on overcoming these obstacles and maximizing the potential for successful collaboration.
In addition to the formal presentations, attendees had ample opportunities to network with colleagues across Duke. The relaxed format encouraged participants to exchange ideas, explore potential collaborations, and build connections that will continue to foster growth and innovation within the university.
